Mr. De-Stress is a ball with eyes who exists for you to squish and smoosh him when your feeling stressed.

In reality though, Mr. De-Stress is also there when you need a ball or sphere pattern for anything, make him a fruit, he can be a grape fruit or orange with a twig and some leaves.  He’s here to De-Stress your search for free patterns and help you imagination come to life!

Included in this pattern:  The basic ball/sphere shape construction, eye placement.

(Please note the pattern for the moustache is not my own and I provide a link to the FREE pattern for same, with kind permission of the designer)

Materials:

  • Hook: 4mm (G) or as neccesary with your chosen yarn
  • dk yarn held double (I used two colours), or aran or chunky
  • Toy Stuffing
  • Saftey Eyes (OR buttons, felt and your imagination)

Gauge: Not important, you want a stiff fabric and a tight enough stitch that no stuffing shows through.

PATTERN:

(Pattern is written using AMERICAN TERMS for fellow UK crocheters who aren’t as bilingual as me……

SC = DC throughout)

RND 1: sc 6 into ml

RND 2: 2sc in each sc around – 12

RND 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around – 18

RND 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * around – 24

RND 5: *2 sc in next sc, sci in next 3 sc; repeat from * around – 30

RND 6: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; repeat from * around – 36

RND 7: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc; repeat from * around – 42

RND 8: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc; repeat from * around – 48

RND 9 – 16: Sc in each sc around – 48

now we begin to decrease the amount of stitches

RND 17: *Sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc; repeat from * around – 42

RND 18: *Sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc; repeat from * around – 36

RND 19: *Sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc; repeat from * around – 30

RND 20: *Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * around – 24

If using safety eyes place now at desired row, (I think mine was at row 18/19) and stuff as firmly as you want your Mr. De-Stress or ball to be.

RND 21: *Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * around – 18

RND 22: *Sc2tog, sc in next sc; repeat from * around – 12

add remainder of stuffing now before closing.

RND 23: *Sc2tog, around – 6

Cut yarn and weave in and out of the last remaining 6 sc and pull shut and fasten off.

Decorate and add character to your Mr. De-Stress, there are plenty of patterns available for lips, or various moustaches, or simply cut out some felt and sew on, or two bits of felt and stuff first giving your Mr. De-Stress some 3D Personality, then in future when stressed, Mr. De-Stress will be there ready and waiting to grabbed, squished and flung at walls. ^_^
